PRAGUE (APRIL 15) - In the beginning of April, we welcomed representatives of the Ukrainian Prison Service, including its Director General Serhiy Grechaniuk, Deputy Director General Serhiy Melnychenko, Head of the State Agency Health Care Centre and regional prison Directors.

As part of the program, the delegation visited the Jiřice Prison and open prison facility, Academy of the Prison Service, Stráž pod Ralskem Prison and met with representatives of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic. The main purpose of these visits was familiarized with the functioning of both prison systems and discuss ways to develop further cooperation.

During these visits, presentations and round table discussions took place, where both sides shared their positive and negative experiences, innovative practices and, given the current situation in Ukraine, the challenges for the future. Participants were informed in detail about the operation of the prison, the security and guarding of the prison, the material equipment of the prison and its officers and also visited different types of accommodation for prisoners, health care units, the escort centre, vocational training centres or facilities for the employment of prisoners.

The delegation had the opportunity to see the K9 Training Centre with a practical demonstration of service dog training. Academy of the Prison Service The delegates also the premises of the training centre, where they could see the training cells, dormitories, a mock prison entrance, a court room, a shooting room or a classroom for staff training.
